Body & Chassis Rules
Modifications outside of the following rules will be considered illegal unless cleared by the Tech committee. All rules are subject to Tech committee interpretation.
Body Rules
The following general body rules apply to all classes:
- The body must completely cover the chassis when viewed from above except for legal stock openings (i.e. windows).
- Body must not exceed original width.
- Each body must have originally equipped or reproduction bumpers.
- Two screws must be used to mount the body to the chassis. Screw heads may be modified for track clearance.
The following body rules apply only to the Fray Class:
- Body must be T-Jet original, hard body reproduction, off-brand or reissue. Body must be T-jet sized and equipped with 2 screw posts. Open wheel bodies (Indy, Gran Prix etc.) are not allowed.
- Body may be lowered and lightened. However, the lower edge of the body shall not removed.
- Fender wells may be cut for tire clearance provided general body rule #1 is not violated.
- Hardtop cars such as Falcons and Mustangs may remove the interiors. Convertibles must have a finished interior and windshield.
- Wheel wells may NOT be cut to allow changes to the original wheel base.
- Split screw posts may be repaired or replaced with plastic in their original and intended position(s). No metal sleeves are permitted.
- Lightweight plastic film windshield and rear window glass is allowed. Side window glass is not required.
The following body rules apply only to the Stock Class:
- Body must be stock T-Jet original, hard body reproduction, off-brand or reissue and cannot be modified. Open wheel bodies (Indy, Gran Prix etc.) are not allowed.
- Body must be T-jet sized and equipped with 2 screw posts.
- Split screw posts may be repaired or replaced with plastic in their original and intended position(s). No metal sleeves are permitted.
- Body cannot be lowered and wheel-wells cannot be modified.
- All windows must be stock and cannot be modified.
The following body rules apply only to the Pro T-jet class:
- Body must be a commercially available hard plastic replica of a modern era NASCAR racecar from either LifeLike, Tyco, Tomy/Aurora or Playing Mantis.
- The body must be mounted using the original two-screw mounting points of the chassis. Homemade body posts are permitted.
- Front, rear and side B-pillar windows must be present. Driver and passenger side windows can be removed.
- Body can be lightened as long as original exterior appearance remains intact.
- Body may be lowered. Either the front or rear wheel-wells (but not both) may be cut for tire clearance provided the lower edge of the body is not modified.
Chassis Rules
The following general chassis rules apply to all classes:
- Chassis must be stock T-jet copper. Bending of motor brush springs is allowed. No other chassis modifications are allowed.
- Removal of gear plate rail is permitted, patent number must be legible. No other cutting, grinding, or drilling of chassis, gear plate, or gear plate clamp is permitted.
- Front rims must be equipped with rubber or plastic tires. Maximum front axle lateral movement is 1/32"
- Axle nuts and/or spacers must be located outside of the chassis. External rear wheel weights and/or hubcaps are not allowed.
- Solder or glue is allowed to attach gears to shaft.
- Gear plate must use stock brass 14-tooth armature pinion and 24 tooth idler and driven gears.
- Guide pins must be either stock black Aurora or mass produced plastic guide pins identical in dimension to the stock pin. Pin length may be shortened. No rear or swivel guide pins permitted. Gluing of guide pins to chassis and countersinking of the guide pin screw hole are permitted.
The following chassis rules apply to the FRAY and Stock classes:
- Stock cars must use original or reproduction stock T-jet rims mounted on stock (narrow) T-jet axles. Any type of slip on plastic or silicone tire is allowed.
- Fray cars may use any tire, wheel, and axle combination provided general chassis rule #3 is not violated.
- Front axle may be located in any stock wheelbase position.
- Maximum overall width of any part of a Fray car shall be less than 1-5/16" (1.3125").
- Minimum resistance of each armature pole is 15 ohms when measured pole to pole. Armatures must be stock T-Jet motors. (No stock-replacement, dewind, rewind, balanced or epoxy coated motors are allowed).
- Magnets must be stock T-jet or Tuff One. Magnets must not be cut, drilled, or sanded. Legal magnet setups will not pick up a John Deere 10 gram groove pin (stock #25H534) completely off of the table (Note: Test is performed on assembled chassis).
- Stock car magnets cannot be shimmed. Fray car magnets may be shimmed with non magnetic material. .
- Comutator brushes must be stock unaltered flat top and bottom type T-jet copper/carbon or Thunderbrushes.
- All top-plate gears must be stock T-jet brass gears. Gears may be polished to provide a smooth mesh. Drilled, grooved or lightened gears are not allowed.
- Rear end gears must be stock T-jet 9 or 12 tooth drive pinion with stock T-jet 15 tooth crown gear.
- Pickup shoes and springs must be stock copper T-jet. No weights, wires, or creative bends allowed. Springs may be cut, crushed or lengthened.
The following chassis rules apply only to the Pro T-Jet class:
- Front axle must be located in the stock long wheelbase position. Any front tire, wheel, and axle combination is allowed provided general chassis rule #3 is not violated.
- Maximum width of any part of the car cannot exceed the width of the body.
- Rear tires shall be slip on silicones on single or double flanged rims.
- Any ceramic Aurora magnet is allowed. Magnets can be shimmed.
- Any armature is allowed. Armatures may be modified, balanced and epoxied.
- Any commutator brush can be used.
- Any pickup shoes may be used. Any pickup spring may be used in the original location. Springs may be cut, crushed or lengthened.
- Any gear may be used and gears may be modified.
